Gua Sha

Gua Sha is an East Asian healing technique. Gua means to scrape or rub. Sha is the term used to describe the “reddish, elevated, millet-like skin rash” (aka petechiae) that is raised to the surface of the skin by scraping. A specialized tool is used along with some oil to evenly glide over the skin to create a “vacuum” which helps to raise the stagnant blood and replenish the tissue with fresh, oxygenated, nutrient rich fluids. Gua Sha is used whenever a person has pain whether associated with an acute or chronic disorder where there may be aching or tenderness in the muscles. The therapist will determine where the Gua Sha will be applied based upon the client’s complaints.
The color of the Sha can be an indicator of what is going on within the body. Very light colored Sha can indicate deficiency of blood. If the Sha is bright red, it is of recent accumulation. If the Sha is purple or black, the blood stasis is long-standing. If brown, the blood may be dry. Dark red Sha can indicate heat. Any Sha that is raised can possibly stay on the skin surface for a few days depending upon how efficient your body is at eliminating the body’s waste products. After a session you will want to stay warm and hydrated, not shower for a few hours, and not do any strenuous activity.

Some of the illnesses that Gua Sha can aid but are not limited to are:
- Decreasing headaches
- Neck and shoulder stiffness and pain
- Back pain
- Strain and sprains

Cost - 10 minutes $6.00
