Swedish Massage

Swedish massage currently represents the western “standard” for massage therapy. It represents a general massage system that uses lighter strokes to focus on increasing circulation, promoting relaxation, and reducing muscle tightness. Typically when you picture massage you are probably thinking of Swedish massage.
There are many benefits to this type of massage including but not limited to:
- Increased oxygen flow in the blood
- Released toxins from the muscles
- Shortened recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissue of lactic acid and other metabolic wastes
- Stretches ligaments and tendons to help keep them pliable
- Helps lower blood pressure
- Improved immune function
- Promotes relaxation and general well-being

There are some contraindications (precautions) to having Massage done. Your therapist will have you fill out a health history form to see if there is anything that we need to be careful of. Some of these precautions, include but not limited to, are:
- Congestive heart failure
- Kidney failure
- Infection of the superficial veins (phlebitis) or soft tissue (cellulitis)
- Blood clots
- Bleeding disorders
- Contagious skin conditions
- Certain medications
- Very recent surgeries

A ½ hour session generally allows time for specific areas, for example: back and shoulders.
A 1 hour session allows for all the major body regions to be massaged: back, legs, arms, head, and feet.
A 1 ½ hour session (the ultimate) allows for all the major body regions with extra time devoted to each area or problem areas.
